GRUB | Breakfast Club x Jam Cafe x Crosstown

Jam Cafe | Crosstown, Vancouver

Crosstown—Victoria's wildly popular Jam Cafe has quickly become another Vancouver beacon in its still relatively new Beatty Street location (the original home and location of Café Medina) over the past year. To see for ourselves, we sampled our own breakfast feast.

Among the many fried chicken dish options, the gravy coupe (a buttermilk biscuit topped with fried chicken, house sausage gravy, and two sunny side up eggs) was a hefty and substantial platter with a crispy, well-cooked bird complemented on a tasty biscuit with gravy. I found the little Charlie bowl (crumbled biscuit, hash browns, diced ham, green onions, cheddar, sausage gravy, and two eggs) a comforting yet somewhat standard breakfast bowl heavy on the starch.

Their wafffle board (topped with strawberries and bananas) was a sweet and delectable effort. I quite enjoyed the special cinnamon cream cheese swirl pancake for its sweet and mighty composition reminiscent of a pancake version of a cinnamon bun.

Jam is very much the bustling but homey breakfast eatery it appears to be with plenty of kitsch and character inside and out. Its ridiculously deep menu likely has something for everyone. I recommend veering towards some of the more adventurous dishes and skipping the more standard fare.
